Hello, I’m Codie
Welcome to The Cozy DIY Homestead where I share all things homesteading and homemaking while our family looks for our dream property to begin our forever homestead. As a mom of one, and soon to be two, I am passionate about building a cozy home for my family from scratch. That means I have a passion for DIY projects that will create the home and life that we want.
Currently our family lives on 5 beautiful acres in middle Tennessee.
Though we know that this home and land is temporary, we are passionate about making it work for us for as long as we are here. That means putting in garden beds, starting compost bins, starting a flower garden, caring for chickens, raising our own food, and DIYing our home to fit our needs and desires.
With plans to move states within the next year we are balancing the desires to grow our homestead with the realistic understanding that we can only take so much with us when we go. That being said, I am convinced that I can still DIY my home in a way that will suit us, feel cozy, and increase our property value. If we can do it, anyone can!
About Me
My husband Sean and I were both born and raised in Arizona, I was raised in a very stereotypical suburban neighborhood with 1 dog and a postage stamp backyard. After meeting my husband in 2014 and moving in together, Sean started a large garden in the backyard of our little home. Since my first homegrown vegetable was picked, I was hooked on the more self sufficient and sustainable way of life that homesteading offered. We got chickens shortly after that, and well, the rest is history!
I am a mom to an incredible 1 year old little boy and have a passion for building a simple and sustainable life for my family. I love all things natural and have dove deep into the path of homemaking over the past year.
For the first 10 years of my career I worked as a nurse in just about every field imaginable, from pediatrics to ER.
We are due with our second baby in July of 2024.
I completed my first big DIY project shortly after graduating nursing school in 2014 out of sheer necessity. My husband and I had just moved into a home together and we needed a dinning table. Having just graduated and not having a ton of money I decided to build one for us.
This, like the chickens was my gateway into all things DIY.
Since then I have renovated multiple houses, built countless pieces of furniture, and crafted my way into the home of our dreams.
A Few Fun Facts About Me
I played competitive golf from the age of 7 until 22. Playing collegiately for 2 years.
I have no desire to go back into the medical field, and plan to stay home to raise and homeschool our children.
My husband and I met in a bar on New Years Eve of 2013 and have been together ever since. He is the most supportive and incredible husband and father I could ever ask for.
We have lived in 4 different states over the years, and in more than 12 different houses, while moving around for his job.
